Bretwalda is an experimental music project from England, but based in Bangkok, fusing medieval history, literature and culture with dungeon-grade, dark age electronics. The project is a psychic journey through the medieval mind, taking in folklore, mysticism, poetry and the unforgiving daily grind of feudal life. Bretwalda's debut, Barrowlands, investigated the role of religion -from Anglo-Saxon paganism through to nascent Christianity -in shaping the culture and psyche of early Britons. Cammock Tongue, on the other hand, is an exercise in drone linguistics, melding traditional medieval melodies with dark ambient synths and authentic Middle English poetry readings to create a unique sonic representation of a distant and unforgiving era.
