Emerging from the ancient and strange seas of Catania, Italy, Sceptre's self-titled debut album contains dungeon synth that's overflowing with majestic glory. Immediately out of the gate, Sceptre transfixes the listener and fully sustains a tightly gripping, precise, and relentless atmospheric energy and sonic journey.

Sceptre's hypnotic electronic sound is rooted in the Berlin School style of Klaus Schulze and Tangerine Dream while also drawing from the mysterious and haunted beach air found within the later works of Coil along with dungeon synth masters Jim Kirkwood and Arcanist, a Yuggoth Records labelmate.

This is a brilliant album that explores the beauty of dreams through pulsating, ever-shifting soundscapes that flow like endlessly crashing waves. Sceptre's mythical musical world is saturated by Noctua with fantastical seaside visions that are the sonic equivalent of beautiful, fog-covered landscapes as perfectly captured in John Longstaff's hallucinatory painting "The Sirens."

A dreamy, beguiling, nostalgic dungeon synth quest through the shires. But, it's so much more than that. The LP incorporates some unique key changes, field recordings and a lot of Mort Garson style synth work. It sometimes reminds me of old 70's PG horror soundtracks.
